This is an antique FULANI WEDDING BLANKET that I bought many years ago. It is wool and probably cotton combined and made of individually woven strips or bands that are then sewn together. Hand dyed. It measures approximately 54 inches by 100 inches. Each individual strip measures approximately 9 inches wide and t are 6 of these strips. These individual strips then form an intricately woven pattern when they are sewn together. T are tassels on each end from the warp threads. The blanket is in EXCELLENT CONDITION without any damage, no fading, no holes or thread tears and no discoloration from dye bleeds or age. No odor. The blanket has been stored in a smoke free, dry environment out of sunlight and moisture. It really looks like the day it was woven! A wonderful piece of artistry! Fulani Wedding Blankets feature a fractal pattern and supposedly a spiritual energy is woven in the patterns. I bought this blanket from the estate of a missionary in Louisville many years ago. I bought it, because I found the weaving so interesting. It wasn't until many years later that I went to the Birmingham Museum of Art, in Alabama and saw another one on display. Actually the one on display was almost a twin to this one. The museum titles their weaving, "Wrapper. Peul People. Mali. Wool and dyes." I was so pleased to finally get this information read more
