Up for auction is a spectacular antique George Jones ceramic Majolica serving platter with the diamond Registry mark that dates it to 1876. T is also a hand written number 350/40 in black and single incised numbers 2, 4 and the letter B. George Jones apprenticed at Minton in Staffordshire, England during the 1850's and began to make his own decorative earthenware pieces in 1861 at Stoke-Upon-Trent, and he is world famous for his Majolica ware. The design features a green waterlily pad or leaf over a blue basket weave design with pale pink flowers and light green leaves over the top of the waterlily pad (wild roses or strawberry plants). T are two formed white lotus flowers with yellow centers that serve as sauce bowls. The handle is formed to look like two vines bound together with a yellow cord. The piece is 10 1/4" wide by 10" long and 2 3/4" tall to the top of the flowers. The condition is very good with no chips. T are a few glaze pops. T is one shrinkage crack w the back of the vine handle attaches to the platter (see close-up photo). T are remnants of a very old sticker or piece of tape on read more
