ANTIQUE GEORGIAN INLAID MAHOGANY BUREAUWRITING DESK early 1800s SATINWOOD INTERIOR This is an opportunity to bid for thisGeorgian Mahogany Bureau, or Writing Desk, I think that it dates to around the early1800s. It is in generally good condition, although it has come straight from a House-Clearance type auction, and will have a few cracks and chips, that I have tried to include in the photos. A going over with some good quality coloured wax polish such as Fiddes Georgian Mahogany, would help to put this piece into “Showroom Condition”. The fall opens and closes well, and is supported on the two pull-out lopers, sadly there is no key to any of the locks, but if they were removed and taken to a locksmith, a key can usually be made without too much trouble. The four drawers all run in and out smoothly, they are made with Pine linings and seem to retain their original handles. The interior is veneered in satinwood with marquetry inlay, the central cupboard pulls out to reveal three secret drawers. I think that there were a pair of columns either side of this central cupboard, but now there are two tall pigeonholes. I have looked all over this piece and there is no sign of woodworm, or any other nasty beasts.
