This is a pair Hard-To-Find, UNIQUE, ANTIQUE, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand-Crafted " Carved Wooden German Bavarian Black Forest Wood Owls Perched On Tree Branches Bookends " handmade in Germany in the late-1800s . Belonging to my great-grandparents, they came from Germany with them when they emigrated in 1894 and I'm told they were used at their home until they passed away in 1955. For the next 14 years or so, they were used by my grandparents until they was packed away and forgotten about until now. Recently rediscovered, they have been safely and securely stored for over 40 years. In EXCELLENT Condition, there is no damage but there is some wear, commensurate with age and use; they come from a smoke-free, pet-free home. Each Bookend stands approximately 11 3/4 inches tall, approximately 5 1/2 inches wide and approximately 3 1/2 inches deep. These large Black Forest Wood Carved Owl Bookends are quite HANDSOME with museum quality detail. Entirely hand carved, they are quintessential Black Forest folk art. With nice proportions, lines and texture, they appear to have been carved by a high-quality craftsman. I saw a similar pair of Bookends on the Go Antiques website being sold for $189.
