You are bidding on a German made Boxwood clarinet in Bb with six brass keys and brass ferrules. All of the joints are marked with a "B," but that is the only marking, as t is no maker's stamp on the clarinet. The boxwood of this instrument is in pristine shape, which is unusual for a clarinet made of this material. Unlike many old clarinets made of boxwood, t is absolutely no warping of the wood, either in the bore or the overall shape of the instrument. The clarinet has 6 brass keys, new pads, and clean tone holes for those inclined to play on it. I have played on this instrument for the past few months, and found that it has a very characteristic sound with lots of color and a wide range of emotional playability. As t is no maker's stamp for the clarinet, it is hard to say the specific date of the instrument, but judging from the key layout (main 5 plus LH C#/G#), the type of tone hole construction (countersunk with some undercutting) and the type of keyheads used (no cup), I would have to put the date of this instrument as somew from 1780-1820, quite an old instrument. One interesting feature of this instrument is a thumbrest on the right hand joint. This is a feature very rarely included on instruments made of boxwood, the reasoning being that the boxwood was so light that one would not need a thumbrest and that the simple key configuration would not require extra support. This clarinet appears to have had one made as per someone's special request when the instrument was lathed, and is a great addition for those just starting to learn to play these instruments. The clarinet has no leaks, seals well with all of the pads, and has NO CRACKS in the boxwood. For those wishing to play, a modern German mouthpiece will fit this instrument. I use a replica Ed Pillinger mouthpiece, but unfortunately cannot part with it, as I use it on my C clarinet as well as my boxwoods. This instrument is a very nice addition to any collection, and in pristine condition by any standards. Buyer to pay S+H, payment through Paypal please. Thanks for looking! happy Bidding!
