For sale is an antique dagger. I believe the origin to be from Germany. I can't exactly find it's originator but from what I have learned it is probably around 100 to 200 years old. It could be a masonic dress dagger, or a millitary dress dagger, or an occult dagger. Below is a very detailed explanation regarding the craftwork contained on this piece. The handle has a medieval knight with a raised shield in one hand. The shield has a face of a bearded man, may be god or the sun. His hair kinda looks like flames. That is encircled by leaves. In the other hand the knight carries a sword which has partially broken off. He is standing on a rock and at the base of the rock is a serpent. The serpent has the head of a waterfowl? The handle is exactly four inches long. The blade is somewhat diamond shaped. It is 8.125 inches long. It is well pitted from age or some type of corrosion. It does have some etching. I cannot see any makers mark anyw on the blade. The blade appears to be welded to the handle base. The sheath consists of two parts the upper and lower. The upper part has the totenkopf on one side. That is again surrounded by a waterfowl headed serpent. On the other side of the top piece is a Lions Head. The lion has etchings of his arms and paws extending downward. T are fine etchings of what appears to be grass or marshlands as the background as well as etching of what appears to be small animals. Maybe a rabbit and a possum. They are very small you probably cant make them out in the photos, but are clearly visible. The other lower part of the sheath has a skull and crossbones with batwings on each side of the top half, along with a waterfowl headed serpent that holds the ring. The lower portion of the sheath has on one side a lions head, skull and crossbones, an etching of an hourglass(?) with wings, and two circles that have a "+" in the center of the circle. The other side has soldier with one of those old helmets with the feathers falling forward.(possibly Mercury?) To his rear are 4 flags, two falling to each side of him. At the bottom of this side is another scull and crossbones. That's a total of 5 skull and bones on this dagger including the totenkopf. Also on this side of the sheath are etchings of an owl, and a lizard. T are also two waterfowl headed serpents entwining the base of the sheath on both sides. The total length of the dagger when sheathed is 13.25 inches. Item is sold as is obviously due to its age. This is not a new knife and pictures indicate its age and condition. I do reserve the right to end early as this is for sale at another location. A very reasonable reserve has been added. I accept paypal only and depending on final sales price insurance will probably be required for shipment so plan accordingly. Due to several request for the reserve amount I have removed it and made my reserve the opening bid. Good Luck!
