This auction is for an antique German crock for tobacco storage. The glaze and detail on this piece are fantastic!! Around the sides are images of hunting scenes of a stag hunt. All four quadrants are shown in the pictures. The glazes used are a deep blue and a rich deep olive green on a cream colored ceramic background. The lid is an upside down acorn with a vine of oak leaves and acorns around the knob's base. The underneath side of the lid is an area comtaining an sponge for hydrating the tobacco. The sponge looks to be natural sea sponge, very old. The bottom is marked 1/65, Made in Germany, E/H, 1 (?) L. These markings are imprinted NOT hand written (see pictures) T are two areas of damage as shown in the pics. Theses are very small and boy did I have trouble getting a picture of them. The chip is about 1/4 inch and the crack is about that long. These are very minor and in no way take away from the piece's beauty!! The crock stands at 9-1/4 inches tall. It is 5-3/8th inches in diameter at the rim. This piece is very unique and comes from an older gentleman in Belgium. With the detailed hunting scenes this would make a great gift for any man whether an smoker or not. A striking piece for the den or office. If you have any questions about this item please e-mail me.
