This auction is part of a larger group of antique Americana and Christmas items that are being listed. Please check out all the other lots. For auction is a terrific grouping: an antique German wax BABY JESUS in a MANGER with 7 PUTZ WOOLEY SHEEP . Baby Jesus dates to c. 1900, while the sheep are c. 1910-1920. Jesus is made entirely of wax, nicely molded with a gentle face. Radiating from his head are gold Dresden rays. He wears a beige gauze loin cloth and rests on crepe paper upon a bed of straw. Below the straw is shredded green paper filler inside a manger made of brown colored pulp (and cardboard). The manger has a couple drops of wax residue on the edges. Jesus measures 4" long by 1 1/3"w. The manger measures 2 1/2"h by 5 3/4"l by 3 5/8"w. Surrounding Jesus and the manger are 7 early putz stick legged sheep. They all have fleece hides and colorful paper collars. The retain their full ears and noses with no chips and stand on sturdy complete legs. All their tails are also intact. The sheep measure: one 3 1/2"h, two 3"h, three 2 1/4"h and the last little sheep is 2"h. All are in very good condition with minor soiling of their hides. This grouping would make an excellent display the Christmas season, as part of a nativity putz scene or simply sitting on a mantel or shelf. I will combine ship when a buyer has multiple purchases.
