Up for auction is a large majolica bowl. The bowl most likely dates to circa 1900 but due to the fact that it is unmarked the date is an educated guess. The bowl is shown on page 133 of "MAJOLICA, British, American & European Wares" by Jeffery B. Snyder and Leslie Bockol, Schiffer Books, 2nd edition. This bowl is of the same design but of different decoration. The plates central theme is a grape leaf in a darkish blue stippled background. The outer edge of the bowl has green leaves pointing outward ending in a pinkish colored rim. The back of the bowl has a beautifil green and brown mottled glaze. The overall condition of the plate is good with no cracks or crazing. T is a chip about 1/2" long on the under side of the outer rim that can be barely seen looking down on the bowl. T is an area w the glaze has broken on the central leaf and a small area on the end of its stem as well. The bowl is 2" deep and is 10 " in diameter.
