Nice all original unusual patented closure antique glass ground lip finished quart fruit jar. Maker - Hemingray Glass Co. Covington,Kentucky 1870-1919 or Muncie,Indiana 1888-1933. Strongly embossed in large serifed block letters - GLOBE A large fancy 56 mold number base. Correct original exact matching colored glass lid is of the unmarked variety. There is a mold number 14 on the underside center of the lid and some faint traces of the PATENTED MAY 25 1886 embossed patent date on top of the lid which had been erased. Lid is excellent! The jar was molded in a bright green aqua colored glass. Nice green coloring throughout. Very wavy, grainy, seed bubbled and blistered old glass. Bright, shiny and thoroughly clean. The jar is in fine overall condition for its age and intended use. A couple of what appears to be manufacturing defects that need to be addressed. The ground lip finish of the mouth on the jar has a small, smooth and shallow sliver out of the very top of the lip. Very likely done in making. The rest of the lip and sealing area of the mouth is absolutely perfect. Not a nick to be found. Also to note is a small internal spidery fissure near the heel on the reverse side of the jar. I managed to get an excellent closeup picture of this. It is very fine and totally unnoticeable when trying to view it on the jar. Very hard to even read more
