This is a near mint condition Griffiths of Norwich Complex Ogee Wood Molding Plane . It is in wonderful condition with hand waxed wood finish, no damage other than two small black marks on the bottom, and only light signs of use as the pictures show. It is 9 1/2 inches long and 2 3/4 inches wide. The boxed quirk and inset give it a very intersting molding cut. If an expert on molding planes knows what this profile is called, please let me know. The Griffiths family made wood planes from 1811 - 1949 in Norwich, England. The shop when this plane was made in the 1845- 1900 timeframe was at Lower Goat Lane, Norwich, England. The "Griffiths Norwich" logo is stamped on the front. The back is stamped "3/4". It has a wonderful shiny, sharp condition and full original length, as it barely seats without cutting. Book Value is $125 - $300 on a Griffiths Complex Molding Plane, and this one grades well in the high end of that value range because of it's near mint condition. I have a low Reserve below $100 because I originally got it as part of a large tool collection I purchased years age, and I want it to go to a true woodworker who will put it to the good use that it was made for or a molding plane collector.
