Up for auction, one antique cast iron GRISWOLD No. 3 MAIL BOX. This piece is being sold as found, we believe that it is all original. We have left the age acquired patina. It is a wall mounted style, the front is all cast iron and the back is tin. The top mail slot w the mail is inserted is marked 361 on the inside, appears that t is a very small knob missing from the center, see photo. The larger cover which you would open to remove the mail is marked No. 3 MAIL BOX in decorative raised lettering on the outside and on the inside reads: GRISWOLD MFG. CO. ERIE PA, U.S.A. 353 . This cover is in excellent condition, no cracks or missing pieces, can be fitted with a padlock. The body is free of any cracks, still retains most of it's original black paint, though it shows some minor wear and rust as to be expected with it's age. T is a raised, very decorative design on the front along with an air hole on the bottom. The back is tin, original black paint with a pierced design (air holes). At one point, somebody placed felt strips along the edges to protect whatever surface it was hung on. T is a hole at the bottom and 4 holes at the top on the inside to attach it to a wall. Measures 12 3/4 inches high, approximately 6 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches in depth at the deepest point which would be the loop to hold the padlock. All in all, a highly collectible piece of GRISWOLD CAST IRON and a fabulous architectural accent for your home or garden.
