c1950s (more than likely older) We've owned this since the 1950s and we acquired it in Japan. It is extremely ornate and highly detailed in it's carving. I was always told that this is made of Ivory and bone dust that was molded then hand carved. It is hand carved, no doubt t - but whether from molded bone/ivory dust or from bone/ivory I just can't tell. Over the years pieces have been lost and replaced - the two "drum" banners in the back are replaced. The two front flags are Ivory and replace the original lost. One of the hanging lanterns from the Dragon Banner is gone, and the Dragon himself is repaired - the two large Dragon flags have been repaired. As far as I can tell - that's the bad stuff, 's the good stuff. This boat IS AWESOME! T are over 50 sepearately carved people, each at a different task, t are two different levels, the tiny hand carved window shutters actually open & close! The entire ship is intricately and ornately handcarved in scrolls, florals, fans and piercings. The two large Dragon flags are in themselves, fantastic works of art! T are tiny tables, cups, kimonos, scrolls, books and lanterns. Along the stern of the boat's bottom on both sides are handcarved dragons. The people are working, walking, playing, talking, they are eating, reading, standing and sitting. (I believe one on top has lost his head)...it truly IS GORGEOUS! Measures right at 14.5" long, 1.5" on the narrow and 2.5" on the widest. Off of it's custom made stand, it is just under 8" tall. The custom stand has two raised pegs that fit into holes on the underside of the boat to hold it securely. The stand is made from an exotic hardwood and is 9.5" long, 3" wide, 2.5" high and is carved to look like waves. This AWESOME BOAT is in WONDERFUL 50+ YO CONDITION!
