This is an antique hand carved gourd from South America probably from the early 1900's. This gourd came from a lot de-accessioned from a museum, it measures 3.75 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide. The gourd depicts birds and animals on the top, I see leopards and a snake in the foliage. On the sides are 2 craved villages one with people and the other with people and Llamas, between the villages are jungle scenes with dense foliage and various animals and birds among the trees. The carving is charming and very detailed, it must have taked quite a bit of time to carve it all out. The gourd is in excellent condition.
