I have no idea for what purpose this fork was made, or w or when it was made. To my eye it appears European in design. The fork measures 10 3/4" in length. The ivory appears to have some considerable age. I don't know if the silverwork is part of the original design, or was a later repair. The four prong fork came into general use in Europe in the early 18th century, so it's unlikely this fork is older than that. Condition is very good. T are a number of age checks in the ivory, but nothing open. And t is one noticeable check through one of the fork tines, but it all seems solid enough for display purposes. The silver is heavily tarnished, but I did not see any reason to polish it. T are no identifying marks anyw on the fork. Sorry to be so vague in the description, but I have been able to find out little about this piece. No dealer or collector I've shown it to has seen anything quite like it. Shipping on this item via priority mail will be $4.60 plus insurance to anyw in the U.S. If it should weigh less than 13 oz. when packed, we can ship it for a bit less via First Class.
