The Item This is a hand carved Meerschaum pipe with an Amber stem. It is enclosed in a leather covered case that is lined with olive colored velvet and satin. The red tag attached to the inside of the case identifies the artist as "A. Burkard Anvers" in gold letters. The intricate carving depicts a young lady, apparently from the Victorian Age, sitting on a half moon.... and the poor thing is in the process of losing her wrap in the wind. The Amber stem is a mixture of translucent and opaque oranges with some small specks visible. The Condition This item is in excellent condition for its age. The Meerschaum has taken on an ivory and brown hue from age and use which actually adds to its attractiveness. The case has minor scuffing and wear consistent with age. The hinges and clasp are in good working order. T is a very tiny (less than 1/32") chip out of the Meerschaum w the pipe joins the Amber stem. This small chip is very difficult to see and I don't think you can see it in the photos unless you really look closely. The Amber stem fits loosely into the pipe. This is probably caused by age, shrinkage or deterioration of the original cement. I believe it could be easly fixed with new cement. T are some teeth marks visble on the stem which is consistent with normal use. The Facts Weight of pipe -- 1.4 oz. Color of pipe -- ivory, read more
