ExquisiteHand-Painted NipponScenic PlaqueGreen BackstampOrnate Gilt Beaded12" Round Early Hairline Repair This Nippon Plaque is truly stunning. Very ornate and painted with mastery. It is part of a larger collection of Nippon purchased at auction. Came from an extremely well-appointed family in the Midwest. I think the scenic woodland/pastoral/lake painting is exceptional and the gilt trim and beadwork is exceptional. The family deemed this piece worthy enough to have the hairline crack professionally restored. The restoration is finely executed and is visible from the back of the plaque. I had to look long and hard to see traces of the restoration to the frontside of the plate. I did my best to take close-up pictures of the plaque restoration. T are no other unwarranted marks or cracks or chips to this piece. The restoration is the only apology to be made. The quality of the painting is superb. Very detailed and intricate. The colour tones used are very much in keeping with the Nouveau period and I would date this plaque to around 1920. All the jewel-tone colors are richly hued and extremely well-preserved. It is appropriately marked on the back. The gilt beading and trim work is lovely. T is no loss to either the gold or applied beadwork. Both are in outstanding condition.
