Antique 1960's-70's Hand Made Sterling Silver and Turquoise Cross Necklace With Open Work on a Leather Lace! Beautifully done silversmithing in a humble presentation! The silver work on this piece is exceptional. The cross and the toggle closure are done by a master silversmith. You would expect this pairing to be on a fine silver chain, and perhaps it once was; but the contrast with the humbly fastened leather lace is striking and profound. Size: The entire necklace has a total fall of 9 inches with the toggle and circle held horizontally. From the top of the cross's bale to the bottom of the cross is 1 and 1/4 inches. The cross, itself, is 1 inch by 3/4 inches. Stones: There are 7 small, irregularly shaped, polished turquoise nuggets securely set in simple wraparound bales connected in an open work pattern. Markings: The cross is stamped with an italicized .925 and, as stated below, tested as .925 Sterling. Details : This is a charming combination of the elaborate with the humble! The smooth inner cross that supports the turquoise is bordered by a a tight twisted rope pattern. Th bale has a triple twisted rope pattern. It is all hand done.
