LATE 1800s THIS IS A GUARANTEED GENUINE LATE 19TH CENTURY HANGING KEROSENE OR OIL LAMP! This is the type which uses a counterweight instead of a spring motor. All in all, it is a rather plain version of a hanging lamp. Starting from the top: the canopy is pretty standard, with no decoration other than a couple of concentric rings which are actually reinforcement for strength. The chain is the double ladder type. The frame is brass. The counterweight is somewhat beat-up. The only thing ornate at all is the cup to hold the font. The finial at bottom is almost a Star of David! The original fasteners between the chain and the frame were missing, so I substituted modern bolts and nuts. The collar which holds the shade is made so that it virtually doubles as a crown, and quite a few of the "teeth" or points of that crown are either cracked or broken off, but it still looks good. The EAPG font is clear, with a diamond and dot pattern. The burner is a nickel-plated "QUEEN ANNE NO. 2" by P&A. The shade is plain white milk-glass.
