This is a lovely antique (Victorian) cameo ring. The setting is unmarked gold, guaranteed to be at least 10k in an Etruscan Revival design. Many cameo brooches have this type of setting, but it is rarely seen on a ring. The band has some Enamel work on the sides, no visible hallmarks. It is about a size 8 or 8 1/2. The cameo is hardstone sard agate, the background being a dark mauve turning to orange on the backside of the stone. The lady is engraved in the white layer of the agate. She appears to be in Georgian period attire, and has beautifully detailed plaited hair falling over both shoulders. She wears a necklace and two roses on top of her head. She is facing to the left. This is an imperfect, antique piece in good condition for it's age. Please note, t is a small ding in the frame at 1:00, one of the decorative beads at the bottom of the frame is missing, and the lady has a tiny chip to the tip of her nose. As this is true of so many of the old hardstone smaller cameos as in rings and earrings, I am thinking a lot of times this chip occurs at the time the piece was made. Remember, these antique pieces were engraved by hand, not with lasers as they do the stone pieces today. Thus the high values on the perfect antique hardstone pieces.
