This is an exquisite Antique Oyster Plate. Manufactured by Haviland & Co. Limoges approx. 125 years ago. It has the makers marks intact on the backside of this pristine plate. As you can see the stamp says HAVILAND & CO and LIMOGES written with the teal color paint. The mark is set inside a double circle which is the shape of a lifesaver candy. Directly beneath t is another makers mark that says H & C co on top of the line, and L underneath in more of a green color. As you may know this stamp dates this plate to have been made between 1876 and before 1880, when this stamp was no longer used. This is a 9 inch plate with 6 oyster wells, and a center sauce well. It is beautifully decorated on a stark white porcelain background. It is what is called one of the Sea Life patterns. I had thought it was hand painted, but I saw another auction a while back which had the same back stamp, but not the same design stating it was decal. It may be decal with hand painted accents. But again I always thought it was OOAK hand painted. I have never seen anything even similar to this design, other than the little sea life creatures part of the design. It does have tiny touches of pearlized accents which you can feel raised on the plate, as well as 14kt. or 18kt. gold trim around the edge of the plate.
