Antique Hawthorne Old-Sol Carbide Bicycle Lamp Light

Sold For:

Sold Date: 12/09/2008
Channel: Online Auction
Source: eBay

Up for auction is an Antique Hawthorne Carbide Bicycle or Carriage Lamp Light. This is an OldSol Model Made by the Hawthorne Company Bridgeport CT. It does have the green and red colored cut glass lense on each side of the main housing, and they are in nice shape, but have yet to be buffed clean. You can tell the color when you look through them, especially toward the light. The front lense does open nicely and hinge well, but does have a broken glass. The pieces are still held intact in the frame. The base still comes loose and shows the various parts. I cannot attest to this model still being workable and it would likely be dangerous to try to light using the old carbide method. The top of the main housing does have the stamped letters that say "OLD SOL MADE IN THE USA HAWTHORNE BRIDGEPORT. CONN" The top of the needle valve also has lettering that says, "HAWTHORNE MFG. CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN. MADE IN THE USA REG US PATENT OFFICE" The light shows the original patina and in in fine shape for its age.

Take this opportunity to own a nice piece of history and be sure to bid!
