I had seen these old seeders advertised in the old Farm ads from the 1800's/VERY early 1900's but until coming upon this one recently I'd never seen one up close. I just fell in love with it. It is VERY HEAVILY embossed on top. It reads "THE JUNIOR, MF'D BY HAYES PUMP & PLANTER Co. GALVA ILL. From what I've been able to research, The Hayes Pump & Planter Company operated during the 1800's & as late as 1918 in Galva. At their heyday they employed as many as 250 people (which was a LOT for 1 company back then). This seeder is still in wonderful condition The lid is in excellent condition and the patina is beautiful. Some slight surface rust to the inside and one place on the backside w the rust has gone through (pictured). Still, considering its age it's an amazing find. Would make a wonderful stand alone conversation piece of Americana. Any number of functional uses either indoor or out. It measures 9 1/2" tall, 10" wide on all sides.
