Offered for auction today is an antique J.A. Henckels Multiblade German Cavalry Officers knife with beautiful stag handles, stamped Deutches Armeemesser on the bottom of the tool I understand was used to clean a horses hoof. I really do not know much about this knife, but I was told by the collector I acquired it from that it was a German Cavalry Officers knife from around the WWI era (either before, during or after he wasn't sure). The Stag handles are absolutely gorgeous with a wonderful warm patina that only long years can bestow. The photos absolutely do not do this beautiful knife justice, I know you hear that a lot, but in this case it is definitely the case. Besides the hoof cleaning tool, it has a pair of tweezers, an ivory toothpick, a corkscrew, an auger, flathead screw driver, a pair of scissors, a file with a cuticle tip, a can opener, a long thin pointy spar(?), and a single, very sharp, blade. The liners are brass, the blade is in pretty good shape, sharpened, but barely (still lots of life left for sure) a bit darkened by age but I believe it could be brought back to a good shine (might just be a bit of tarnish). T is the tiniest bit of rust on the surface of the file, but it is entirely superficial and should clean up fairly easy. It has the Henkels twins and henkels stamp on the main blade, a bit worn.
