Estate fresh from Saugerties, NY, and 100% guaranteed to be as stated an antique and not repro. All we can say is WOW!!! This is such a wonderful find and we are so excited to bring this to you. Hester Bateman Sterling Silver tri-footed salver. Ca. 1770. Stamped.
Hester Bateman, the most famous of all women silversmiths, registered her first mark with the London Goldsmiths Company on the 16 April 1761 at the age of fifty two. She was widowed by John Bateman in 1760 and took over his metalwork business transforming it into one of the most successful silversmithing workshops. Located in Bunhill Row, London with her sons John, Peter and Jonathan and later her daughter-in-law Ann married to Jonathan, their son William and grandson William II became highly skilled silversmiths working at the Bateman workshop, producing some of the best silver pieces of their generation. This truly is a little beauty. This salver has a pretty floral motif and a most unusual tri-footed base that is in excellent shape. Quite a fancy little piece of fine decorated art it is. Take note to the lovely hand-crafted metalwork. Great patina and is in excellent condition. Measures 6" in diameter by 1" high. Would make a great accent to any fine decor.
