I will list several Antique Staffordshire Bowls and Plates this week. Some are featured in the Petra Williams reference book Staffordshire Romantic Transfer Patterns They are generally in excellent condition; any exceptions are noted below . DESCRIPTION An American Historical Transferware Plate printed in Deep Cobalt Blue on White. It depicts CITY HALL in New York City and is part of the John & William Ridgway Series entitled BEAUTIES of AMERICA. The central scene depicts a man, woman and child observing the magnificent City Hall building. The rim has an ornate border segmented in 12 sections, each featuring a flower. The design descends into the well. The unevenly scalloped rim is slightly concave. The plate is finely potted. Pearl Ware Glaze is evident on back of plate. Produced circa 1820s. IDENTIFICATION Printed Marks : In an ornate rectangle, the name of the suject CITY HALL NEW YORK Above BEAUTIES of AMERICA Beneath J & W RIDGWAY The mark was used from 1814 - 1830 DIMENSIONS Plate: Diameter 9 7/8" CONDITION NO Chips or Cracks. Light surface scratches. Crazing observed on both surfaces of plate. Professional Rim Restoration at 9 o'clock for edge chips with no related crack (see photo) Pattern is complete; glaze in nice condition without any flaking.
