Old Hand Crafted Hopi Wicker Peach Basket Circa 1890 - 1935 8 1/2 inches high x 12 inches in maximum diameter Condition; Good: The design has faded, and the basket has wear to the rim wrap and the foot wrap Description: This basket although typical of an antique peach basket has two unusual aspects from my perspective. It is the only basket of this type that I have seen with a lip at the base, (a foot) that extends one half inch out from the body of the basket. It also has the old fashioned start (the split or Grand Canyon start). This indicates that it is a very old basket. Peach baskets were used to carry fruit and food. But this antique basket might have been made as a waste basket, as the lower rim gives it secure footing. This basket came out of a Flagstaff , Arizona collection.
