For sale today is a restored smaller size humpback steamer trunk in the rare 1/2 size and the restoration turned out just awesome. The pictures do not do it justice. I did not find any patent dates on the trunk and based on 35 years experience restoring trunks I would date this trunk to the 1840's to 1870's which makes this great old humpback a 140 plus years old - a true antique. This trunk was in good solid condition when the restoration started and the bottom is solid and the metal has been painted. The trunk has the two original hinges which are tight and work well, t are 25 plus pieces of polished hardware, has the original center lock which has been polished - no key, the original latches were replace with new leather ones, t are eight solid oak slats in a golden oak color which are thicker than normal. T are two slats w some of the wood is missing. This neat little humpback trunk has a new custom built tray and the interior has been removed. All the metal is VGC, it has two original skids on the bottom, two new cloth lid stays have been installed and the lid closes well. Two new leather handles were installed with the original hardware. This awesome old humpback trunk is 22.5W plus the handles, 18.25D and 20H. THE EBAY SHIPPING PRICE IS INCORRECT!Shipping trunks and especially oversized trunks is expensive so I offer four choices on the s/h/i. First local pickup up is welcome and free.
