New to the market is this wonderful late 1800's tin with wood straps humpback trunk. The trunk came straight from the descendant of the original owner. The flat lock on the front of the trunk has a stylized W on it and the words Pat'd Sep 69. The backside of the lock has a five-sided star with Pat'd Mar. 08 & Apr 77 and another five-sided star. The lock does not work or come with the key. The trunk is 16" wide X 10 3/4" from the base to the tallest rib on the lid X 10" front to back. It has pinwheel design tin on it interspersed with wooden ribs and plain black metal corners. I am unsure what wood the ribs are made of, but someone suggested they were poplar faux painted to look like oak. The trunk has its original patina with some light surface rust, but no holes anyw on it. The trunk has plain round top brads holding the wood and metal pieces together. The bottom of the trunk is wood with no holes or problems. The trunk maintains the remnants of one leather handle on one side. The other handle is missing. The inside has its original paper lining and trays. The door on the top was held on with leather hinges that are missing, but the door is intact. The original crease in the lid of the large storage compartment of the top of the tray is worn but still connected. The lithos inside are sharp and clear. Overall this trunk is in very good condition for its age. Please see photos.Don't let the low starting price fool you - this is a beautiful antique piece and would be super in any primitive, doll, or antique trunk collection.Insurance is required on this purchase. Please e-mail me if you have questions before you bid.U.S. winner pays 24.95 USPS shipping and handling.
