Antique Handmade & Carved Wooden Folk Art Hungarian Wedding / Linen Chest. This Beechwood chest measures Apx. 23" Long x 13" Deep x 14 ½ Tall. The top and front of the chest has hand carved designs similar to PA Dutch Hex Signs. The latch is heavy wrought iron. Inside measurements are 19" Long x 10" Wide x 10" Deep. The wood is hand planed and joined, with nails added for reinforcement at a later date. The wood has natural tiny worm holes all over it. This chest is in good sturdy condition. Top of chest shows some marks or stains from use, but doesn't detract. If you love folk art, Southwestern or Mexican pieces, you'll love this one as well. A professional who deals in these types of pieces had this to say about this chest: "It is indeed Hungarian, and it is from around 1900 or a bit earlier. Since Hungary was three times the size it is today, it is possibly Transylvanian, or what would be present day Romania. It is called a "Szusze" chest, and was used for storing linens. This chest weighs apx. 15 lbs. before packing. I normally ship Priority Mail, but I could ship UPS for this piece. Please email with any and all questions - thanks!
