This Piece of Imperial Jadeite jade was carved by hand and without the use of modern hand tools. These pieces are quite rare and the Cabbage is a subject that was often used. The exact age cannot be pinned down as with jade t is no way to tell except by judging the method of crafting and the design used. This piece is an exceptional and large piece that was most likely brought to China down the the Burma trail on the back of a pack animal and then meticulously carved into this piece by a very skilled Chinese imperial craftsman. The Chinese did not start using true Jade until the middle and end of the19Th century as the local stone of Nephrite was only available in ancient times and the pieces were made of this lesser quality stone. This piece is made of Jadeite which is the true jade and most desirable and sought after. The length of the piece is Approximately 9" long and stands about 5" high and weighs approximately 5-1/2 pounds. When properly displayed this piece is fantastic and will draw the attention of anyone that gets a glimpse of it, they will just have to go get a better look at it. T is a chip in the a scroll and can be seen on the last photo. This is not noticeable when it is standing on display but is something that needs to be disclosed. Otherwise this piece is exceptional and is a real treasure that can be enjoyed and appreciated for a very long time. The pictures do not do justice to the true beauty of this piece as t is color shift due to the lighting and I am not a professional photographer but t should be enough variations to get a good idea based on what t is. The true color is a beautiful light green color which is semi translucent.
