Antique Infant of Prague, chalkware, 12.5" tall. This beautiful Infant comes with three vestments; the original gold satin with cream coloured undergown, and two newer ones; one violet satin and one green satin. There is also a new undergown of ivory satin and lace, with silver beading. The statue was given as a wedding gift in 1938 to my in-laws. It is not known whether it was new at that time or was in the family before then. It is complete, though it looks as if there is some cracking around the neck (which is completely covered by the vestments) and not very noticeable even without the vestments. The chalkware body is ivory coloured and nicely detailed, and the orb with it's cross is intact, though the cross is a little uneven on the right side. There are small dents here and there, as is common to chalkware. This statue has an interesting feature that I have only see on one other Infant, the hand is made of rubber instead of chalk and inserted by means of a wooden dowel. This seems like a good idea, since the fingers and hands are so often broken off on these statues. The condition of the original gold vestment is not perfect, there is some staining on both cape and gown and a few holes in the very fragile undergown. The other two vestments are in excellent condition, I believe they were both made in the 50's and never used.
