Antique bracket clock by well know German clockmaker Philip Haas & Sons. 13"T x9 1/2"W x 5"D. This is an 8 day clock striking the hours and the half hours on a cathedral gong. Nicely refinished, inlaid case with elegant trademark Haas solid brass handles to either side. Beautiful string inlay work on the front with an exceptional inlaid design of a vase with scrolling leaves to either side, below the dial. Bezel has some dents at XI, VII, and V, but not too bad. Glass looks original. Hands are original. Brass plaque is worn and reads, in part, "Presented To Bandmaster R. Castleman, By the Officers of the R. M. College Dartmouth, Dec. 1911" Should you care to the plaque could be turned over and perhaps engraved with something different or removed altogether. Original hollowed brass round feet. The 5 1/2" silvered dial has its markings engraved into the metal and filled with black enamel. It is exceptionally clean and clear. T is a slight indentation to the case at the peak, both in front and back, all but unnoticeable. Pierced brass grill in the back door which has its original brass pull. The gong is inscribed with "PSH" for Philip Haas and the back plate of the movement has their trademark. T is no pendulum and no key. However, after winding the movement with a key from another clock, when the pendulum is moved it tick tocks, and the when the minute hand is moved, the hours and half hours are sounded on the gong. It most likely needs servicing and no assurance can be given as to its working order or lack tin. A highly decorative clock from a maker well known for their quality work.
