Fine Antique German interior scene of a French style courting couple. It is an oleography of a Carl Schweninger painting(born 1818-died 1887). It is hand painted oil on board. It is framed in an antique period wood carved frame. The frame has gypsum patina and gilt. Measurement in the frame is H=18 W=16. Oleography is an art form first developed during the Victorian era which allows the quality, color, and character of an original art work to be reproduced (painting over print). We had this painting dated and appraised by Christie's auction house in New York City. They dated this piece to about 1890, right after the death of Carl Schweninger due to condition of the wood frame and the oil on the painting. When wood has lost a considerable percentage of humidity veins begin to open showing the characteristic pattern we see in this frame. This painting has been affected by time and sunlight (faded). The red colors should be stronger on the mans jacket and the furnitures upholstery. We consider it a high quality decorative piece and we are asking for a fair price. Christie's auction house appraised it's value between $1,000 to $1,200. On the back of the painting is words in German language, and export stamps. This painting is priced to sell. More pictures are available upon request.
