This is a very rare mid-1800's, hand forged auger that was designed to loosen dried fruit or slightly hardened sugar that was either shipped or stored in barrels. The cork screw shaped center section would enter near the center of the opened barrel, then the outer, slightly blunted blades would work with the other to break up or separate the contents of the barrel. This one is hand forged, and is in very good condition, with no rust, and is clean, no damage. It has a 9" wooden handle that is also clean and solid, a few minor stains and dings on it. The auger is iron and is 14" long overall. There is some minor pitting noted here and there, but overall in very good condition. A rare kitchen collectible!
