's an antique furniture catalog from J.B. Van Sciver Furniture Company in Camden, New Jersey. Front cover reads: A Little Book of Beautiful Furniture by J.B. Van Sciver Co Market Street Ferry Camden N.J." It's 44 pages of pictures of all the types of furniture they made... from Hoosier style cabinets for the kitchen, roll top desks and office furniture, to bedroom suites, dining room and parlor sets in many styles from Arts & Crafts to Spanish to Colonial, Rattan (called reed), clocks, rugs, etc. I can't find a date but it's probably early 1900's... I see furniture that was owned by my grandparents and great-grandparents (long time residents of Camden). Some of the info on how to get to the store and how to order furniture is interesting and antiquated such as: "The Van Sciver Showrooms are located opposite the Penna R.R. Terminal in Camden, N.J." (I guess no street address was given because everyone knew w the railroad terminal was) and "Visitors from Philadelphia take the ferry from the east end of Market Street. Boats cross almost continuously." and "Free Delivery by auto and goods set up in your house within 20 miles w roads are good." The condition isn't good but all info and pictures except one (of the Van Sciver building on back page) are intact. The cover is paper. Cover pages are torn with bits missing (the back is worse than the front). Back of last page was dirty and wiped with a wet cloth at one time. Front of cover is grayed from age and attic dirt. Center pages, 21 & 22, have water stains, grayed from attic dirt, and bug damage at bottom spine crease. Many pages have lost little bits around their edges because of age and brittleness of the paper. It's still very interesting to see and read about all the different types of furniture. A great historical reference for anyone interested in antique furniture or for collectors of Camden memorabilia. 11.5" x 9". Purchased from an estate sale.
