The bottom picture is a sample of my current listings. *German hallmarking system was unified in 1888, adopting the national mark CRESCENT & CROWN indicating in thousands the fineness of silver. This system is still in use in present days. * **This soup ladle is of German origin and was manufactured by Jacob Posen, son of Brendina Wetzlar and father Lazarus Posen, a silversmith of Polish descent. Jacob Posen joined his mother (now a widow; she was running the firm) by 1880, and by 1900 they were producing some of the finest silver ware in Germany. They received a royal warrant in 1903 and are permitted to engrave their silverware with the eagle insignia (Reichs-Adler). In the 20th century the firm was under the direction of Brendina's grandsons Jakob, Hermann and Moritz Posen. The exact date of the company's closure is not known.
