Antique Jacobean Oak Claw Foot Dining Table &6 Chairs Search Description Up for your consideration is an Antique Victorian Oak Claw Foot Dining Room Table and 6 Jacobean High Back Oak Chairs. The table without the leaves measures about 30'' high, 46-1/4'' wide and 45-3/4''deep. There are 3 leaves, each measure 16'' wide. The table will open to a full extended size of just over 94'' (almost 8 feet). There are 6 chairs - Each measures about 41-1/2'' tall, the seat is about 19'' high from cushion to floor and the cushion is about 2'' tall. They are about 20'' wide in the front, 17-1/4'' in the back and they are about 18'' deep at the seat, but the back arches back so that would add another 2 or so inches. I have been able to seat 8-10 people at this table comfortably and as many as 12 people fully extended. The condition of this set is good to very good. The table has some nicks and scratches from use over the years. I have photographed the top with a few photos to review. The legs have ''bump'' wear from the chairs bumping into it over the years. The chairs are in good condition but will likely need re-glueing in the near future depending on use however, I have a guy who will re-glue all the chairs for about $250. I will take care of the re-gluing of the chairs at cost if you want me to. The seats were covered in the late 1980s and kept clean over the years. The wood has some typical bumps and dings, but I am exaggerating the condition to be sure to please the most discriminating buyer. There are about 48 photos to review and interested buyers are welcome to inspect in person if they wish by appointment. This set is for local pick up only. The buyer is welcome to arrange for long distance shipping with the freight/moving company of their choice. Here is the history of this table and chairs: I purchased the table at an auction in the early to mid 1980s in Pennsylvania and it was in pieces, it had been dipped and it appeared the table was covered with red and black paint. The table was held together with screws and nails and the top was significantly warped. There were no leaves. The table was about 3'' too low to accommodate any chairs comfortably under the table while dining.I had plans on using the legs for a hall table project but ended up moving to The bay area in California. The table sat in the garage for about a year and to my surprise, I found the top had unwarped itself due to the dry air of the Bay area. I had then come across a antique restorer that specialized in restoring European antiques and his company took the table away to see if they could bring it back to life. He started by finishing removing most the left over paint, dismantled the table by every piece, sanded it down, built an extension to raise the table about 3'', added new wood extension rails and he built 3 1- 6'' leaves. Though the table is 100 plus years old and the the wood today has a different grain, but he choose the wood for the leaves specifically because it was a closest to the grain on the table top. He then painted the wood, stripped it, soaked it in water to raise the grain, scrubbed it with steel brushes and then after all was done, he added a center leg to support the leaves.I asked him to add the skirt to match the rest of the table because I had intentions of having the leaves in at all times. He then finished the table with a medium to dark oak color. The Chairs were rescued from an antique store in a San Mateo antique store a few months earlier and they too, were painted, dipped, stripped and falling apart. They were unfinished and the seats had some 15 layers of fabric on them and the seats were glued on the chairs with double stick tape. I brought the chairs to a refinisher and he finished stripping the paint off, repaired the damage he could, re-glued them and refinished them to the same color as the table. I then re-upholstered the chairs. This set has been with me for over 20 years and moved from Pensylvania to New Jersey to California and back to New Jersey. It has hosted...
