I'm not an expert in Nihonto, but just a beginning collector who needs some additional money to invest in the restoration of a nice Koto Katana... This dagger was bought from a collector who got it from a GI who returned from the Pacific Theater. The blade tapers to a point. I don't think it's one of these rare double bladed Moroha tantōs though it has a diamond-shaped cross-section. And it neither seems to be a Kaiken. It could be a Shinto Ken from the 19th century? Or it could be a ceremonial temple dagger from the Showa or Meiji era. Traditionally forged with a suguha temper line (as far as I can detect it).Interesting but a little bit mysterious is the inscription on the blade. It seems to read: Ko-Kaji Munechika saku . Possibly an allusion to a swordsmith? On the opposite side of the blade t is a dragon encarving. Though the color of the rust on the nakago is a deep, wet looking black I cannot verify if it is as old as it looks.Interesting too is the very precisely worked koshirae which is completely made of Sentoku and decorated with several silver kiri mon and finest encravings of flowers and birds. A style which was used in a similar form on Kwaiken koshirae around 1600 and later often adapted to the koshirae of ceremonial swords which were given to shrines and temples.
