This is a beautiful Meiji period (1868-1912) netsuke of Daikoku holding a fan with a rat on it. The condition is perfect, zero damage. The bottom is signed Bunshi, possibly an artist from the Yamagata area. This certainly was not done by a novice as the intricate hand carving is magnificent. Please look at all the photos carefully to fully appreciate this piece. Note the detail, right down to the sashiko stitching on his bag. His bag is also decorated with kamon and his robe has kamon, wisteria and prosperous clouds. It measures approx. 32 mm x 31 mm x 23 mm. It weighs approx. 13 grams.
