Antique Japanese Imari Porcelain Bowl This bowl was purchased in London in May 1970 and came from my father's estate. He was a world traveler and avid collector of Asian art. A graceful, Japanese ko imari porcelain bowl with a lobed shape to the outer edge. The style of this bowl's interior is kinrande or gold enameled porcelain. The interior is divided into six equal sections that alternate between the deep cobalt blue with chrysanthemums and grasses in a basket to deep cornelian and gold designs with a repeating pattern known as Matsukawabishi . The center of the bowl has a traditional design that appears to be a fruit with leaves and stem. It may also be a traditional treasure pattern. The exterior of the bowl has three pairs of traditional designs as well that incorporate the cobalt blue and carnelian tones. A footring of 1/3-inch elegantly supports the bowl. Three concentric, cobalt blue circles are on the outside upper portion of the footring. The base of the bowl is partially unglazed, followed by a smaller glazed center outlined in cobalt blue. A maker's mark is easily seen but I do not what is means. The bowl is in extremely good condition; t are no nicks, chips, cracks or restorations. T is a very slight burr on the inside edge in one of the carnelian sections that is not readily visible. It is slightly raised and smooth and no doubt occurred during the firing process. My father's inventory logbook has a note to the side that the estimated age of this bowl is between 1800 and 1850. This bowl would make a great addition to a mixed set of Imari. My parents not only admired their many treasures, but they also used them for special occasion meals. If you have any questions about this piece, please email me prior to bidding. Serious bidders only. Thank you. The bowl measures 6 inches in diameter and 1-7/8 inches in height. Weight is 11 ounces. No. 6
