This is a rare Japanese arrow dating to the Shinto Period, before 1867. It is 27 inches in length with a cane shaft, iron head and wood nock. It is a special arrow used to be fired from a palenquin which is a small enclosed litter in which dignitaries and war lords were transported. A special short bow was used and together, the occupant could defend himself against attack.
