A Very Old, Antique,Japanese, Samurai Sword with Beautiful Fittings and Lacquered Scabbard! The highly, curved blade with straight temperline, appears to be very old, with graining over the entire blade surface and shows some surface openings and ware. The extreme tip of the blade (approx. .12") has been broken off. The tang is unsigned with 4 holes, one being plugged. The beautiful, two piece, silver, foil covered habaki, is slightly loose on the blade. The blade measures 27" tip to notch (with tip missing), 35.75" overall, 8.75" tang, 1.12" wide, .187" thick. The hilt rates excellent with almost no wear to the cloth wrap and sami. The blackened steel tsuba, menuki and fittings, also rate excellent. The original scabbard with matching, blackened steel fittings, is beautifully, lacquer finished in red and black metalflake, and shows some chips and splitting at the seams, but remains in very good, solid condition. The bottom fitting appears to have been glued in place at some point in the past.
