This is a strikingly colored antique Japanese kimono from the early 1900s, made of the airiest silk imaginable. It just floats! The colors are azure blue, emerald green, peach, tangerine, and silvery white on a black ground that has a design of its own. The colored areas feature flowers including chrysanthemums, a house or temple, bridges, paper lanterns, and other oriental motifs. The lining is emerald green and is so sheer that you can see the design of the outer layer through it. This kimono does have some wear issues, although the overall appearance is good. The lining is pretty fragile and does have some moth damage here and there, as well as a couple of worn spots, one of which has worn through the outer layer. There are a couple of moth holes on the outer layer as well, but you can't see them unless you really hunt for them. This kimono is really too fragile to wear or to clean and so should be used for decorative purposes only. The length is about 44-1/2" and falls at about mid-shin, and in terms of size, I would say it's a medium to medium-large woman's size. I don't know if this would have been worn by a man or a woman, but that gives you an idea of the size. Even with condition issues, this kimono is still a wonderful work of art that deserves to be appreciated and would be a great addition to a collection of orientalia.
