Beautiful Wall Hangings From Estate of Byron H. Knapp
The first picture was taken shortly before the deaths of the Knapps at 99 yrs. of age in their home. The hangings were purchased in 1956 on a World trip to purchase items for (then*) Knapp and Tubbs Furniture Showrooms. The Knapps chose to keep these hangings for their own use. They have been hanging in their smoke free and pet free homes since 1956. When the estate was appraised, in Jan., 2007, the Japanese Wall Hangings were described as "Antique Japanese teak wood panels with bone and mother of pearl inlays, late 19th c. Value $1,500." They are 52" high, 21" wide and 1" thick each. The combined weight is 22 lbs. There are some blemishes, all within the tolerance of something over 100+ years old. No attempt (since 1956 at least) has been made to clean or restore the pieces . In my opinion, they could be hung and enjoyed just the way they are, but a purist would probably have some cleaning/restoration done. Every attempt has been made to photograph the pieces warts and all. These hangings were photographed outside in bright sunlight. If you look VERY closely, there is a blemish visable in picture three that is shown close up in picture four. The colors in the photos look a little different but they are not. Probably picture three is closer to their actual colors. They are being sold 'as is'. Because of the few condition issues, I am offering the pieces quite a bit below appraisal value. Please ask any questions before you bid or make an offer. I am not a business or a dealer, I am a family member who now owns the hangings. I will answer any questions as honestly and as quickly as I can. PLEASE NOTE: Shipping costs will be at the Buyer's expense. Pickup with no packing or handling charges can be made in the Portland or Eugene Oregon areas. * Now known as Baker, Knapp and Tubbs
