Antique Jonah Kumalae Ukulele Beautiful color. First the good part. It has the original label inside and on the neck. Neck label says Kumalae Gold Award P.P.L.E. 1915, Seal Hawaii below seal. P.P.I.E. stands for Panama-Pacific International Exposition which was held in San Francisco. Inside label reads: Jonah Kumalae Manufacturer of Ukuleles Awarded Gold Medal for Ukuleleand Taro Patches at P.P.I. Exposition. Kumalae Hawaii (and logo) Phone 2384 1719 Liliha St. Honolulu. I had someone with experience look at this and he said this particular ukulele was one of the most expensive because of the inlay. It was probably custom made because of the different pattern down the finger board. This one looks more custom. Made of Koa wood. Inlaid wood is beautiful, the patina is also nice. Beautiful ribbon inlay of dark and light wood around the body. The finger board has two rows of light-colored inlay T are two skinny inlay circles and one side with stripes around middle sound hole. Now the imperfections: Look at all the photos. Has a 2.5" crack in front. Missing apiece of wood on top of neck to hold strings, missing piece from bottom of wood piece that holds strings. Has a crack in the back - see photo. Approximately 20" long. Just the body without the fingerneck is 9". 5" across widest part of front. Still so great looking. Please ask questions!! read more
