This is a beautiful and rare KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SWORD AND SCABBARD with a flying eagle pommel. THIS IS A FIRST GENERATION SWORD. The sword first made its appearance at the first 4 th degree assembly on Feb-22, 1900. It was in production from 1900 to 1920's. The sword with scabbard is 38 inches long and 5.5 inches wide at the guard. The blade is 28.25 inches long. I was told this is the sword carried by the forth degree (highest at the time) and one who has mastered the concepts of FAITH, HOPE, AND CHARITY. The pommel is the illustrious and sought after FLYING EAGLE. The handle is black wood. The eagle and guard are in excellent shape with a beautiful gold patina. The blade is in good condition with a nice gold wash. On the backside of the blade is the emblem of the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS , the shield, mace, sword and anchor. T is however no makers mark on this sword, I have researches this and it is very common to see no mark on a first generation sword. This is a beautiful sword for the age. The condition is very good with some signs of use. All pieces are in great shape and feel solid.
