Those of you who've watched the TV program,"Pawn Stars," know that the best antique barber chairs have round seats and are made by Koken! You'll also know that these chairs are in high demand as collectibles. Up for auction is a Koken Congress Hydraulic Barber Chair with a round seat. All original. The "Congress" was the company's flagship model. This one is unusually ornate. The exposed metal is chrome and the metal seat base is enameled. The words "Koken , St. Louis" are molded into the metal foot rest as well as the step plate. Ernest Koken started the company in the late 1800's and the company was successful until the Depression. It's hard to gauge how old this chair is, but my guess is that it's pre-Depression. The chair is not without some shortcomings. After all, I'm an honest Ebay seller and this chair is a used antique. First of all, the hydraulics does not work. So the chair cannot be raised or lowered. However, the chair does recline to almost 180 degrees. It's so comfortable that one visitor fell asleep in it! Secondly, the imitation red leather seat could use a new cover. It has cracked with age. I'll leave that to the new owner, since some collectors like everything to be original. Third, there is a crack in the foot rest, which has been welded and reenforced. The chrome on the armrests has developed a bit of rust, which can probably be cleaned up a bit. Those are the glaring problems with the chair. To me, they're fairly minor given the chair's age and use. Please feel free to ask any questions. These chairs are heavy and generally approach 300 lbs. in weight. Please be aware that the buyer must arrange pick up of this item. I will NOT ship. Payment required within a week of auction's completion. Payment should be made by Paypal or by check, please allow 3 days to clear bank. Also c ontact me for payment methods to pay on pick-up .The chair is located in the Catskill Mountain hamlet of Arkville NY. It is about 125 miles northwest of New York City and about 75 miles southwest of Albany. Thanks for checking out my auction.
