VERY RARE...VERY COLLECTIBLE !

GERMAN OCCUPATIONAL PERSONALIZED SHAVING MUG FROM THE EARLY 1900'S DECORATED BY THE KOKEN BARBERS' SUPPLY CO. IN ST. LOUIS, MO.

This very rare shaving mug belonged to my great uncle and has his name on it in gold gilt...J.P. LAND...he was from Jessamine County, Kentucky. After doing some research, I have found that the ordinary KOKEN mugs are not that rare but the OCCUPATIONAL KOKEN mugs like this one sell for hundred's to thousand's of dollars ! He was an avid bird hunter and the mug depicts a hunter shooting as his bird dog points. It stands 4" tall and weighs one pound. It is in EXCELLENT condition, with NO chips, knicks or cracks. Some of the gold gilt has faded off but the painted hunter scene is still mostly intact. It has the KOKEN BARBERS' SUPPLY ST. LOUIS, U.S.A. stamp on the bottom. Also incensed on the bottom is GERMANY. My camera would not pick it up but if you look closly in the first picture, you can barely see it on the bottom rim. This is a fabulous old mug and I am starting the bidding very low & selling with NO RESERVE ! Go to the LiveAuctioneers website and search for KOKEN, and you will see what these occupational mugs are selling for...unbelieveable ! The Koken company was formed back in the middle 1800's and closed in the early 1900's...they were the largest makers of barber supplies in the country, at one time. The history is very interesting. Flat rate shipping to lower US 48 states is $8.00 plus appropriate insurance. Happy bidding ! Check out my other auctions !
