Antique Lao Bronze Buddha, 9.5" high and very heavy at 4 lbs, 7.1 oz. Gold gilding over a layer of black lacquer worn down in areas w it has been handled over the years. I purchased it from someone who acquired it in Laos a while back. While it may have been cast in Laos it is also possible that it was cast in Thailand. Statues are transportable and peoples and borders in the Golden Triangle have shifted over time. This Buddha has the characteristics of the Ayuthaya style of the 14-15th century in Thailand. Buddha images were replicated as sacred images from their inception to the present day. While this casting does not date back to the 15th century, it has some age and is a beautiful example of its type. Note: The store will be closed from March 26 through April 9 to welcome the spring.
